What is Hot Dip Galvanizing?

They say ‘A big business starts small’ and that is exactly what our founders at Indmark have always believed in. It all started when our founder Mr Narendra Meher had the vision to create a niche in the export industry by providing services of remarkable quality, especially from an Indian-origin manufacturing company. Our motto of never compromising on the quality of products and services is something we have been following since and it has helped us carry and uplift the platform with a vision to upscale Indmark into multiple sectors.

Process :

Hot dip Galvanization is a unique process wherein mild steel is coated with zinc, to form an alloy with a surface of the base metal when immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 500°C. During its exposure to the atmosphere, the pure zinc (Zn) reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide (ZnO), which further reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate (ZnCO3) a dull grey substance which protects the steel underneath from further corrosion in most cases.

Uses :

Galvanized steel is used in making equipment vulnerable to corrosion but doesn’t necessarily require stainless steel as it also happens to be an affordable option as compared to stainless steel in terms of cost and life cycle. Hot-dip galvanized steel structures minimize environmental impact by utilizing natural healthy, abundant, and recyclable steel and zinc.

Advantages:Galvanizing protects the steel by acting as a shield between the steel and the atmosphere. This process is commonly used to protect steel embedded in the soil. A hot-dip galvanized coating is relatively easier and cheaper to specify than an organic paint coating of equivalent corrosion protection performance. When clean steel is immersed in molten zinc, a series of zinc-iron alloy layers are formed by a metallurgical reaction between the iron and zinc, providing a robust coating which is an integral part of the steel. With the vast majority of structural steel and zinc in the galvanized coating entering the production phase as recycled material, the minimal effects of mining and producing natural, abundant zinc, in addition to naturally occurring by-products of the galvanizing process, are the only outputs that accrue throughout the life of a hot-dip galvanized steel structure.
